February 2012 Goals

I was tempted to write a post at the beginning of January highlighting my goals for the month.  I decided to list those goals in my head and, what do you know, surprise surprise, I only accomplished one goal: finish the Paris Trip Blurb book.  AND, I finished it the last weekend of January.

The nice thing about a blog, even if no one reads it, is that my writing is out there and it’s a way I can hold myself accountable.  It’s more like an online diary, but highly edited and not as emotional.  I think there’s a higher possibility that I’ll accomplish my goals, or at least more goals, if I list them here.

So here’s what my goals are for this month (hobbies only):

1. Ask someone (most likely a friend) if I can practice taking photos of him, her, or a pet

2. Practice taking “headshots” of husband

3. List one calligraphy service ad (I’m thinking Weddingbee classifieds, The Knot, or Etsy)

4. Finish the Prince Charming quilt

5. Create a pattern for a pillow cover (complete with instructions and fabric quantities)

The first item is something I’ve been wanting to do for months, but I just feel really silly asking someone if I can practice on him or her.  I have a friend in mind, so I just need to get up the courage and ask.  The second item requires dragging P outside somewhere around LA with decent lighting and background. The lighting in our apartment is atrocious and I don’t have any portable flashes so we need to do this outside, but we’re usually lazy homebodies. The third item is something I’ve been wanting to do for at least a year, but again I’ve been nervous to do it.  “What if my ‘client’ hates my calligraphy?” “What if I screw up all the envelopes?” “What if I spend waaaay too much time and hardly get paid anything?”  I need to take the risk and do it because I’ll never really know the answers to those questions until I do it! I can easily finish Item 4, I just need to make the time.  I’m pretty sure I can finish Item 5 too, but it will probably require me to actually make the pillow cover as well, which I’m not opposed to.

And to make things more difficult on myself, I’ll only have 3 weeks to complete 4 of the 5 goals because I’ll be out of town for work for one week!  I should use that time away from home to research the best place to list my calligraphy services (with appropriate prices and instructions for a potential client) and create a pillow cover pattern.  I can do this! I will do this!

Sometimes I need an extra kick in the pants to get things done so feel free to push me in the comments and ask how my goals are coming along.
